Project Desciption
For this project it was groups of three, I got Sydney and Brenden. When this first project launched off I was excited about my group. I already knew about Sydney being a hard worker and leader but I didn’t know that much about Brenden. When working together it’s all over the place but we come together in the end and work till our hands fell off. In ways I want to grow as a group member is stepping up and taking more risks, I guess you can call me the assistant of the group. I try to help everyone trying to get to everyone's needs. But I hope that I can lead others one day.
I enjoyed the humanities part of this project more than anything. I was interested in revolutions and was excited about any one we got. Since our school doesn't really focus on History it was a fascinating topic to research on. I hold most pride in my presentation. In our presentation we had to answer questions that we were given about our revolution. I had to perform in front of two classes instead of one. Having about 50 pairs eyes on me wasn’t pleasant and made me nervous but I pulled out in the end and everyone said I did really good!
Physics on this project was actually enjoyable. We used energy audit through our rollercoaster to tell how our coaster works. It just doesn’t work just cause the marble rolled down the hill and gained speed it’s much more than that. The math to learn how many km/s our marble was going was so easy! I wish we could stay with this topic on math but our school moves onto another topic now. Our physics thinking comes in when we decide how to design the coaster. We didn’t want too complicated of height or our energy audit might have been harder than it was.
The engineering part of this project was so much fun! The making of the coaster was very hard we put our blood, sweat and tears into this coaster. The burns, the pokes, the possibility of getting your hand cut off by a jig saw. We all went through it. And it was amazing going through construction. I’m sure that's a skill you won’t get anywhere else. Thinking we used with engineering in mind is when our turns and camelbacks would take place. How the marble would make the whole turn or perhaps might fall off. We prepared ourselves having made a fence at the end of the coaster making sure our marble wouldn’t get let loose.
` The exhibition was so much fun! Having it at Belmont park was a treat. Having a fun time after your time at your coaster. There was a lot of people there and I mean alot. Many were interested making time go by faster. If I had to grade myself I would give myself an A. I contributed a lot to this project and put my heart into it. Down to the feelings of Percy Potterton, our character, to the marble that rolled down our coaster. I helped with my partners in knowledge of revolution helping research and practice for presentation. I helped one of my group members with the energy audit. I feel much stronger in metal working. Sure I knew how to use a drill and a hammer. Now I know how to use a jig saw and not get scared! What I need growth in is probably taking a part leadership and putting in more ideas. Usually I am one to go with the tide and be cool with everything. But perhaps next project I could contribute some ideas of my own.
